Intuition, Pendulums & Dowsing…

So let’s talk about your ‘gut feeling’ - this is actually your intuition or as some call it, our ‘inner knowing’.

The gut is made up of 500 million neurons; the network of nerve cells lining the digestive tract is so incredibly extensive that it’s almost like our ‘second brain.’ This network of neurons is often overlooked and never given a second thought and contains more nerve cells than the spinal cord or peripheral nervous system. (The brain has approximately 100 million neurons so your gut is 5 times more powerful in that sense)

Beyond the amazing, sheer volume of neurons, our ‘second brain’ bears even more resemblance to the brain upon our shoulders. Our gut produces over 30 different neurotransmitters, which are signaling molecules, typically associated with the brain. This includes a staggering 95% of the production and storage of serotonin, the neurotransmitter famously known as the ‘happy chemical’ owing to its role in regulating mood and well-being.

When we say we are what we eat - a lot of that is to do with gut health. I won’t go into that too much as that’s more about food sciences and general health in what we eat, however I just want you to understand that there are countless studies out there that will attribute gut health to physical well-being and mental health too and good mental health helps the connection to energy.

The gut and the brain communicate via the vagus nerve which is kind of like the M25 is to London - an arterial motorway of great importance.

For example - sometimes you may get ‘butterflies in your stomach' through excitement  and on the other hand, something so emotionally painful leaves you with a ‘gut-wrenching’ feeling. Your brain will be processing those feelings, but also it will be rationalising those feelings and trying to make sense to keep you stable.

A really simple example of the gut feeling fighting the brain rationalisation is this; (and we have all been there at some point)…

You’re out with a friend and go into a public space such as a pub, a coffee shop, a restaurant, or even just near a group of people and you just get an icky feel - something just doesn’t feel right; off or you just feel like something’s just not right. You may have felt like you wanted to turn around and leave, but ultimately it’s a “feeling” deep in your gut that’s trying to make you make a decision - even though your brain is probably saying “don’t worry, it’s OK, no-one is bad and you won’t get hurt, it’s a nice place, it looks safe…”

There’s a good chance you’ve been in one of those positions and then you found out later that something happened and it was a good thing you left, or as you left you just “felt like it was the right thing to do” and you breathed a sigh of relief. Either way, your gut sensed something your brain couldn’t see or materialistically perceive and you followed your gut instinct.

When we talk about intuition, that’s a clear example of our inner knowing, although sometimes we can’t explain it - we just sense it. This is not the same feeling that psychics and mediums use, that’s a different energy, however for almost everyone - we have a sixth sense, a gut instinct and the more you learn to trust it, the more you will have your feelings validated.

If you continually dismiss the gut feeling - (and you won’t always be right - sometimes you’ll be proved wrong but you need to learn and process what you felt) then you’ll end up in situations that could have been avoided or if you’re a spiritual soul who’s evolving, then you’ll not progress as much as you might be able to as you’re not trusting in the energy you are feeling, because ultimately that’s what you’re sensing - energy.

So now that you understand what the gut feeling is and intuition, let’s move on to pendulums and dowsing (rods like the old fashioned way of finding water).

Pendulums are a tool, as are dowsing rods - one of the oldest forms of divination dating back to ancient times to find water!

How a pendulum works is not rocket science - it’s actually a lot more simple than you think. Going back to the inner knowing - this space has a magical energy about it and knows more than you do - like I said before, the receptors in your gut know stuff that even your brain doesn’t know or even has the time to process. Your gut knows before your brain does - if you pay attention ;-)

A pendulum, if used properly will give you a real-time indication of what your inner knowing is telling you, it’s quite amazing if you’ve never done it before!

Basically, when your inner knowing gives you an answer, your hand will move, sometimes ever so slightly but enough to make the pendulum move too.

Firstly you need to choose a pendulum, (or rather more it may choose you, like crystals do!). Pendulums come in all different shapes and sizes, and materials, for example, my one is made of copper and I have a very deep connection to mine as I have used it for many years. I also have one that I use in crystal healing that has a Reiki symbol on it and that is made of another material. We sell a range of pendulums, made of genuine crystals and they can be found here … https://www.thekentcrystalcave.com/collections/pendulums

Once you have found a pendulum that you like, you’ll need to cleanse it much like you do with a crystal, this removes any unwanted or excess energy that may be attached to the pendulum. Spend some time with it and get to know it, by getting to know it - you’ll need to know what the Yes / No is. Every pendulum is different and every one who uses them will react in a different way.

Hold your pendulum by the end of the cord or chain and allow it to go still and hang perfectly.

Ask a question that you know the answer to eg “Is my name Paddy?” “Am I a man?” “Am I a Reiki Master?” Watch what the pendulum does, so the answers to my 3 questions would all be yes - so I would need to see what the pendulum does to answer a ‘yes’ question. If I threw a no question in there such as “Am I a millionaire?” I’d expect the pendulum to do a different movement.

The reason you use a question that you know the answer to, is so that you know what the right action for the pendulum is - it’s like setting a baseline so you know where to start.

Pendulums work with present energy - they’re not intended for future and past questions and equally if you muck about with a pendulum - don’t expect a serious answer back! They’re working with the energy of your inner knowing, so if you’re playing about with that energy in a jovial manner then that is the energy you’re putting out and will receive back. The same goes for asking the same questions repeatedly, after so many times the pendulum will respond irrationally because of the conflict in energy.

Dowsing is the same as Pendulums, except that they are generally rods, made of copper (again different materials can be used or purchased) and you hold them horizontal so that they are very sensitive to a change of angle. When your inner knowing or intuition gives an answer - the dowsing rods will move.

Again, you need to know what the Yes and No answers are - so repeat the same process as per the pendulums.

A dowsing rod is held, one in each hand, and you hold them so that the rod is balanced, very carefully and is ever so sensitive to moving left or right. One your inner knowing gives you the answer, you will see the rods move. Sometimes it may be one, or both, they may point in or out, or cross over, or both point out. With time and experience, you will soon learn the answers.

We sell dowsing rods here - https://www.thekentcrystalcave.com/products/dowsing-rods

Practice using your pendulum, or dowsing rods as and when you can - the more you use them, the more in tune you will become.

With regard to your intuition; sometimes you may wonder “what if i am wrong?” As a general rule the best way to determine if it is your intuition telling you something, is that you will have the sense that it 'won't go away’. It will keep nagging you until you do something about it.

When something feels off, it normally is!
